Geocache Description:

In Latin, centi means 100 and pedis means foot. That’s where the creepy little bug gets its name from. Don’t let the name fool you because all varieties of “centipedes” have an odd number of pairs of legs. Depending on the type of centipede, their number of legs can range from 30 legs to 354 legs. Not only do centipedes look super creepy with all those fast-moving legs, but they are predominantly carnivorous too! They use their sharp pincers to bite and inject venom into their prey. There are an estimated 8,000 species worldwide. They have been found in deserts, tropical jungles, and even beyond the arctic circle! They are typically found in soil, leaf litter, under stones, inside logs and dead wood. A 19thcentury Tibetan poet warned other Buddhists, “if you enjoy frightening others, you will be reborn as a centipede”.

So, enjoy your hunt for this centipede and take solace in the fact that not all centipedes pincers are capable of piercing human skin, and yet others lack venom all together. Besides, this is the friendliest centipede you’ll ever meet! Placed with permission. Happy hunting!

The first to find will be rewarded with a pin!
