Geocache Description:

This is a micro cache which compliments the surroundings. The cache is about 5 metres East from the main North/South path (running parallel to the road) and about 3 meters South of a low wall, at a multi-trunk Wych Elm (Scotch Elm) tree. The path can get muddy after heavy rain. The path is relatively quiet, but look out for dog walkers. Tweezers may be of use to access the cache log, and remember to bring a pen/pencil. Please also try to not over tighten the screw when reassembling (righty righty, lefty loosely 😁). There is also a car park nearby with a path heading North, leading close to the location. This part of the path can, on occasion, be flooded but there should still be access to the path from the North entrance to the park.

The cache log is ‘waterproof paper’ so you should be able to sign it even if it seems wet.

McDonald wood was gifted to Ellon citizens in 1928 by James Gordon McDonald and is sometimes known as the green heart of Ellon. The woods are split into two areas; the East and the West, with a golf course on the West. In the woods, you may spot some of the resident wildlife, including rabbits and birds. If you are very lucky, you might even spot a red squirrel.
