I went and visited the cache after the last comments and it looks as if the area around it has been entirely enclosed in wire fencing as part of the process of creating new heathland on the site. I've removed the cache and will relocate it shortly
Several folks who found this cache have commented that they went over or under a barbed wire fence to get to it which has puzzled me. When we planted it in the Summer we took a circular route to get to it and didn't come across any barbed wire. We visited again in Nov 2002, and can confirm that you do not need to cross any fence to get to the cache. It is perfectly accessible from mostly wide bridleways (except for a narrow path for a few 100m at one point), so if you are the wrong side of a fence from where you think it is... try coming from a different direction!
When we planted the cache it was a very clear day and we had no trouble getting an accurate GPS location. However it is in a fairly dense wooded area so you may not be able to get a good reading in the immediate cache location on a very wet day. There is however a good sized clearing nearby so you should be able to work from that location.
This is a small/standard "tupperware" box, so don't bring anything too big.
It initially contained, among other things:
- Case for a Motorola L7089 phone
- Music CD
- Packet of baloons
- Rainbow badge
- Various nasty fast-food give away toys (sorry)
- A childrens book
There are lots of interesting paths and bridleways in this area, as well as Rammamere Heath itself. The Greensand Ridge Walk passes very near, and the Milton Keynes Boundary Walk is also relatively close by.
You can always treat yourself to refreshments afterwards at the ice-cream kiosk/cafe in the Stockgrove Country Park car park.
