Geocache Description:

We love everything about geocaching and have finally decided to "give back" by hiding 6 Geocaches in notable locations around beautiful Bridgetown

The Bridgetown Reperatory Club was first formed in 1932 and has continued to be active up to this time without any break.  Even during the 2nd World War when most theatre groups suspended operations, members pressed on raising money for the troops overseas making the club unique in W.A. and quite possibly in Australia.

The Theatre’s first production was A Clerical Error in 1932 performed at the Mechanics Institute. The following presentation in 1933 was Tons of Money, the hit West End comedy, a great success and set the stage for many years to come with productions touring to neighbouring towns.  A typical performance would start with the play, musical entertainment during intermission, followed by a dance at the end of the evening. Admission was 2 shillings.

During the late fifties, through hard work, a lot of community support and no Government assistance whatsoever, the club members finally realised their long held dream, a theatre home of their own at this site. This building is privately owned by the club and is a one hundred and sixty five seat theatre with a sloped auditorium and a good sized stage. There are dressing rooms equipped with toilets on both sides of the stage with a good sized green room behind plus a seperate wardrobe building out the back. The auditorium, foyer, dressing rooms and green room are all now carpeted and air-conditioned.

The Bridgetown Repertory Club is still as strong as ever, with the style of performances changing over that time to match the interests of the patrons.  In 80 years many thousands of people have been involved with the theatre group as performers, back-up crews or patrons and, with the new generations of young people coming through the two youth groups the future for Bridgetown Theatre looks good.
