This is the tenth in a trail of 13 Caches set out by my Husband and I with 4 of the dogs in tow, to which this trail is named after and has individual Caches dedicated to. We have recently moved to the area and couldn't wait to set out a new trail in this beautiful countryside. My Step- Mothers Cocker Spaniel Barry inspired us to have Cocker Spaniels, as he was such a lovely dog with a great nature and care free spirit. Sadly Barry went to Doggy Heaven a few years ago after running for miles and miles over the years on these pathways. Prior to Barry's departure arrived 8 week old Cocker Spaniel Floyd, another Chocolate one just like Barry. Yet another Cocker Spaniel, also Chocolate, called Fearn arrived 6 months later. The three of them spent many happy walks, or runs as Cockers forget how to walk as soon as they learn to run! Labrador Faye then joined us on many walks, her being our Son's Yellow girl who likes to stay over, so 12 paws became 16! Sadly Barry then passed away leaving only 12 paws again. Not for long as Fearn and Floyd had become quite close and 8 more paws arrived, taking the paw footprint to 20, with the birth of Chocolate and White Breeze and Storm. Labrador Faye felt a bit left out with all these Cocker Spaniels in the mix, so our Son bought her a rather Handsome companion in Black Labrador Paddy. Taking all 4 Cockers and both Labs certainly is fun and it's baths a plenty as they like to roll and wallow in all sorts of smelly and wet findings out on the Downs. You will find a Cache called Trixies's Tricks. Trixie is a little wire haired Terrier, her legs being too short to run as many miles as the rest of the gang. However she has a cache in memory of my late Grand-Father who was Trixie's Master. Grandad exercised his Eventing Horses for many years and for many miles over our beautiful South Downs, so we thought it quite fitting to include his beloved little Dog, who could do no wrong (believe us she is a pickle)! Our Daughter now looks after her for Grandad until he can see her again and be back to spoiling her rotten! So that is the story behind our trail. We had great fun placing it and hope you enjoy it as much as we do. The trail is approx 7.5 miles with some steepish hills and bumpy terrain. For a couple of the Caches you need to be relatively fit and nimble. Tweezers are a must for some of these Cache's, or you won't be signing it. Some Cache's are devilishly sneaky, but it's no fun to have them all handed to you on a plate! 3 Caches are on a single track country road, other than that they are all in wooded areas or across fields with beautiful views. There are Cows and Sheep behind fences on the trail so please be sure to keep Dogs under control. Enjoy!!!
