William (Billy) Bunker
Billy Bunker was a different kind of golfer. He was the worst golfer to make the tour and everyone knew that he bought his way in. He walked around the course with an old wooden cane and insisted on using it as a golf club.
Billy always had a handicap in the triple digits. He sometimes took dozens of shots to make it onto the green. He would have needed a hole five feet wide to reliably make a putt.
Billy came to Spokane to retire. He paid to have some of the city courses renovated and often was spotted knocking around the courses for years. One day though, someone finally got him to use a fancy new club. He had plenty of power behind his swing and somehow managed to hit his favorite golf ball into the Spokane River near this cache. Not one to lose a golf ball, even if it required hunting through the woods for hours, he went after his favorite ball. Sadly he was swept away in the current and drowned.
The cache is placed in his honor, out in the woods by the golf course, where he would often be seen searching for his favorite golf ball.
This cache is part of the 2019 Fantastic Unbelievable Nonsense Geocoin Challenge where everything is made up and the points don't matter. If it's been FUN, it probably happened in Spokane like the time in 1965 when the U.S. Open was held at Downriver and the crowd kept chanting "Tiger!, Tiger!" for no apparent reason since it would be a good 30 years before Tiger Woods exploded on the scene. Of course, Spokane has always been ahead of the curve.... When you successfully complete the FUN Geocoin Challenge and chant "Tiger!, Tiger!" you will be rewarded with a trackable Geocoin, and that's no joke!
