Geocache Description:

Свети Николай Летни

Saint Nicholas Summer's monastery is located about 1 km north of Godech. When the monastery was originally founded, it was not known, but it would have been during the Middle Ages. The abbey is situated next to the foundations of an ancient temple, built at the end of the II - beginning of the 3rd century during the time of the North Dynasty. In front of the entrance there are two square altars - north and south with dimensions 2 to 2 m. The planning scheme and the presence of the two altars at the entrance to the temple have a single parallel with a similar cult building, discovered in 1936 in the city of Titus, United Kingdom.

Its uniqueness lies in the fact that while the walls of the temple in Titus are made of stone, bonded with white mortar, the one in the town of Godech is built in masonry without masonry and is the only temple of its kind in Europe, opened up to now.

I have spent many hours in the nearby factory, but never actually walked in this direction. So, in order to respect the Monastery, but still point it out as an interesting place, the cache is hidden at the sign instead. No need to go inside the fence!

Welcome, and please bring your own pen.
