Geocache Description:

Legendary!

This is a puzzle cache.  It is not at the listed coordinates.  To obtain the cache coordinates, please solve the following puzzle.

This is a field puzzle and not likely solvable if there is snow on the ground.

This cache is part of the Project Atoz series.  Click here for more information.

The Salt Lake City Cemetery, the largest city-operated cemetery in the United States, contains the headstones of many famous and honored individuals.

Perhaps the best word to describe the headstone starting point for this puzzle, though, is "Legendary".  It just might be the most-visited site on the grounds, and during my short stay during the constructing of this puzzle, 15 or so curious visitors stopped by.  Thanks to the equally Legendary MtnPriest for unwittingly suggesting the descriptive word and title for this cache.

To begin the puzzle, identify the gravestone in question and determine its location in the Cemetery, an activity I recently completed and enjoyed.  To ensure you are considering the intended of many legendary markers, note that it contains a triad of matching digits which are the source of most of the fascination with the site.

Next, make a field trip to the site.  The Cemetery is open 365 days a year from 8 AM until dusk.  Although the puzzle is intended to be fun, please treat the grounds and markers with the full respect they are deserving of.  The site is both beautiful and peaceful.

Start at the Legendary gravestone itself and note the year of birth and death.  Then, continue to the next five stones going south,  collecting the same information.  You will have visited a total of six markers.  Note that two of them contain two date ranges, in which case both should be used.

For each of the eight date ranges, use the following table.  Find the year of birth in the column on the left, and match it to the year of death on the top row.  The intersection is the digit you will need to solve the puzzle and locate the cache.

For years that occur more than once, just reuse the same row or column for that year (giving two digits for that row or column).

Finally, use the eight digits identified in the table, going left to right and down, to complete the coordinates of the cache.

Be sure to use the digits in the order from the table and NOT the order of the headstones.

Don't forget to make a note of the clue word on the cache log.  You will need it to solve Project Atoz!
