Alviso- New Chicago Marsh Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Galileo the cat: The birds are really enjoying this flooded area but it’s not a spot for a cache right now. Archiving this and creating a new one in a dry place.

Geocache Description:

This is a small, dark cache placed in a scenic area. Should the spiritual joys of a commute on 237 be just too overwhelming some day, take a detour and grab this one. A writing stick is included in the cache, there is room for some small swag. This is a 24/7 cache but if you come after dark be careful: the ground is uneven and rocky in spots. Access may be also limited during times of heavy rains. THE CACHE IS WITHIN 10 FEET OF THE ROAD AND NOT NEAR THE HIGH VOLTAGE TOWER!

New Chicago Marsh lies just east of Alviso. The Chicago name comes from a bit of shady land development in the 1890's. Do a web search for "New Chicago Marsh" for more information, and a few chuckles. Right now, the marsh is part of the San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge.  Their website contains more information and some trail maps.

One of the given waypoints is for the Marsh View Trail trailhead, further east on Grand Blvd. Parking is available there and it's an easy trail for a walk.  Closer parking is at the corner of Grand and Spreckles.

VTA route 59 provides access to Alviso.  It's a walk to this location but there are other caches along the way.
