99 Trees
1330-1500
Sunday 30th June 2019

Hi guys! We’ve been invited by the Sholing Valleys Study Centre to assist with some path widening. This will consist of cutting back overgrown vegetation on the paths to allow better access for walking in the park at Miller’s Pond. There is some suggestion that we might be able to “do some wildflower ID” or a litter pick, if that takes your fancy instead !

Sholing Valleys Study Centre is the oldest environmental study centre in Southampton and has had a registered charity status since 1988.

The all-volunteer organisation have a pro-active approach to conservation of nature and environmental management, with education and involvement of the community a key element.

Sholing Valleys Study Centre is also responsible for the maintenance of the Miller's Pond area, which since 2012, has been a Local Nature Reserve, a piece of "countryside in the city", the only such site in Hampshire.

Please indicate your ‘will attend’ so we have an idea of numbers. At 1330hrs we will be given instructions and a Health & Safety brief by Mac and Steve from the Study Centre before the exercise begins.

This is a new hosting organisation for us so I hope we can manage a good turnout ! Work at the site is happening all day - if you want to do an all-day session theres also a morning session from 10-1245hrs. This isn't part of the CITO, but if you’d like to go, please contact me so I can let them know. I think they’re doing lunch for the truly committed!

Parking
Steve says: “Parking is limited on site and may be non existent depending on machinery used on work days, but you can park on the road nearby.”
