Geocache Description:

“If you can put your five fingers through it, it is a gate, if not a door. Shut your eyes and see." James Joyce .

The creation of a cache on 16 June, Bloomsday, just asks for a reference to this most extraordinary Irish writer for it is on this day each year that the life of James Joyce is commemorated world wide. Bloomsday is named after Leopold Bloom, the protagonist of his very complex modernist novel 'Ulysses', from which the quote is borrowed.

This very simple geocache celebrates doors and gateways. Open your eyes and see!

Gates and doors separate two distinct areas, keeping things apart. They are a boundary, a barrier which you may need to negotiate if you choose to cross a threshold or enter new territory.

On a symbolic level, gates and doors invite movement from one state to another: they represent a rite of passage. And the mid-point of that mysterious transition can be a place of disorientation and ambiguity. Even risk. It could be a one-way ticket. There could be some places where you can check out any time but you can never leave.

You might find a bumpy road ahead!!!
