Krakowiec – Górki zachodnie
Nazwa ta jest przekształceniem historycznej nazwy osady rybackiej, która mieściła się na wyspie (po zamuleniu koryta Wisły połączyła się z lądem) i nazywała się Krakau. Z uwagi na to, że nie chciano aby dzielnica Gdańska była kojarzona z Krakowem, dostała nazwę Krakowiec.
Wcześniej wspomniana osada rybacka została zniszczona w 1840, gdy przez środek wsi wdzierając się przepłynęła Wisła – lód zatarasował jej koryto, a rzeka znalazła sobie inne ujście i tym samym podzieliła wieś na dwie części : większą, zachodnią (dzisiejsze górki zach.) i mniejszą. Wschodnią.
Jedyna górka, która była w zachodnich to góra źródlana – wydma o wys 22m
Nazwa górek zachodnich początkowo była „Nową przeprawą- Nowym Promem” – Newefehre. (z lat 30 XVw.) później skrócona do Neufahr.
W 1949 została ustalona urzędowa polska nazwa miejscowości – Górki zachodnie
Na ich terenie znajduje się NCŻ- Narodowe Centrum Żeglarstwa AWFiS Gdańsk, jachtklub stoczni Gdańskiej i kilka innych obiektów wartych uwagi.
Dzielnica graniczy ze Stogami, od północy dzielnicę tę oblewają wody Zatoki Gdańskiej, od wschodu Wisły Śmiałej, a od południa Wisły Martwej.

Krakowiec – Western Hills
This name is a transformation of the historical name of a fishing village, which was located on the island (after the silting of the Vistula channel connected to the mainland) and was called Krakau. Due to the fact that they did not want the district of Gdańsk to be associated with Krakow, and it got name Krakowiec.
The previously mentioned fishing village was destroyed in 1840, when Vistula swam through the middle of the village - the ice blocked its bed, and the river found another outlet and thus divided the village into two parts: the larger, western (today's western hills) and smaller, eastern.
The only hill that was in the west is a dune of 22 m, called the spring mountain
The name of the western hills was initially "New crossing - New Ferry" - Newefehre. (from the 1530s) later shortened to Neufahr.
In 1949, the official Polish name of the village - Górki zachodnie was established
In this area there is an NCZ- National Sailing Center AWFiS Gdańsk, yacht club Gdansk shipyard and several other objects worth attention.
The district borders with the Stogi, from the north the district is surrounded by the waters of the Gdansk Bay, the east of the Vistula Śmiała, and the south of the Dead Vistula.
