Deze korte Multi voert je door de straten van de Hollanderwijk, een wijk die inmiddels een eeuw oud is en de nostalgie van vroeger duidelijk uitstraalt met zijn groene heggen en de nauwe autoloze straatjes. De huizen zijn voorzien van unieke QR codes en vertellen de geschiedenis van het huis en zijn bewoners. Ik wil jullie laten kennismaken met deze wijk, de wijk waar ik woon, omdat de mensen en dan vooral toeristen deze wijk laten liggen omdat de route vanuit het station meestal richting centrum voert en deze wijk op steenworp afstand van het station ligt.
Rond het jaar 1000 wordt de Middelzee omgeven door dijken (onder andere over de Schrans) en in de 13e eeuw wordt land gewonnen door lagere dijkjes op te werpen. Een van die dijkjes is het Hollanderdijkje. Aan deze dijk komt rond 1900 bebouwing. Sinds de industrialisatie is er een trek van het platteland naar de stad. Om die bewoners te voorzien in betere leefomstandigheden wordt Woningvereeniging Leeuwarden opgericht in 1905.
Architect van de vereniging, W.C. de Groot, maakt in 1913 een eerste ontwerp voor het terrein langs het spoor en aan de Hollanderdijk. Hij had al meerdere projecten in Leeuwarden op z’n naam staan. Hij was al verantwoordelijk voor woningen in de Indische buurt en de Rembrandt- en Saskiastraten. Als hij in 1914 met een ontwerp komt waarin het stratenplan speels wordt doorsneden door een slingerende straat wordt het plan aangenomen. Het werden uiteindelijk 177 huizen, gelegen aan een centraal plein en een aantal dwarsstraatjes.
De bouwstijl is bijzonder. Mooie lijnen van gekleurde bakstenen sieren de huizen. Ronde bolvormige objecten markeren de hoogste punten van de daken. De tuinen worden gescheiden door een groot aantal zeer fraai geknipte heggen. De wijk is duidelijk ontworpen voordat de auto populair werd. De meeste straten zijn alleen te voet toegankelijk. Centraal door de wijk loopt de Hollanderstraat. Aan het plantsoen staat een gedenkmonument voor de geprezen ontwerper van deze omgeving.
De straten in dit stadsdeel zijn vernoemd naar notabelen, middenstanders en belangrijke overheidsdienaren uit de regionale geschiedenis. Zo waren bijvoorbeeld Onno en Willem Zwier van Haren grietmannen. De geschiedenis van de Hollanderdijk gaat zelfs terug tot in de zeventiende eeuw. In die tijd bestond er al een pad tussen de landbouwgebieden met dezelfde naam.
In 1915 werd de wijk opgeleverd.

THE HOLLANDERWIJK
This short Multi takes you through the streets of the Hollanderwijk, a neighborhood that is now a century old and clearly radiates the nostalgia of the past with its green hedges and the narrow car-free streets. The houses are equipped with unique QR codes and tell the history of the house and its residents. I want to introduce you to this neighborhood, the neighborhood where I live, because people and especially tourists leave this neighborhood because the route from the station usually leads to the center and this neighborhood is a stone's throw from the station.
Around the year 1000, the Middle Sea is surrounded by dikes (including over the Schrans) and in the 13th century, land is reclaimed by erecting lower dikes. One of those dikes is the Hollanderdijkje. Around 1900 buildings will be built on this dike. Since industrialization there has been a migration from the countryside to the city. To provide those residents with better living conditions, the Leeuwarden Housing Association is founded in 1905.
Architect of the association, W.C. de Groot, made a first design for the terrain along the track and on the Hollanderdijk in 1913. He already had several projects in his name in Leeuwarden. He was already responsible for homes in the Indian neighborhood and the Rembrandt and Saskiastraten. When he comes up with a design in 1914 in which the street plan is playfully cut through by a winding street, the plan is adopted. They eventually became 177 houses, located on a central square and a number of side streets.
The building style is special. Beautiful lines of colored bricks adorn the houses. Round spherical objects mark the highest points of the roofs. The gardens are separated by a large number of very beautifully cut hedges. The neighborhood was clearly designed before the car became popular. Most streets are only accessible on foot. The Hollanderstraat runs centrally through the neighborhood. At the park there is a memorial monument for the acclaimed designer of this area.
The streets in this district are named after notables, middle-class people and important government officials from regional history. For example, Onno and Willem Zwier van Haren were chick men. The history of the Hollanderdijk goes back to the seventeenth century. In those days there was already a path between the agricultural areas of the same name.
