I passed this little hidden Chapel purely by accident one day, and couldnt believe there wasn't a cache here - So here it is!
The Chapel of Agios Spyridon (Or Saint Spyridon) is built within a cave at the base of a rocky hill, and as built in 1999 by two siblings - Yiannakis and Vasso Pelekanou. The siblings built the Chapel in memory of their parents who were originally from the occupied village of Asha.
Their father Christoforos Pelekanos had originally dreamed of building a chapel inside this cave when he found the caves whilst doing some construction work in the area. Unfortunately he died suddenly at age 69 before he was able to realise his plans of building the chapel. In 1999 his children undertook the project to build the Chapel, and dedicated it to Agios Spyridon - A saint who was also born in Asha Village in 270AD.
The facade of the Chapel is built according to their father's original design, and the interior features an iconostasis and wooden seats for the few visitors the Chapel can hold. Many weddings and Christenings are held here and the Chapel celebrates St. Spyridon's feast on 12th Dec and 11th August when the Chapel will be open all day.
The cache is a small clip and lock box, you will need to bring your own pen and be careful when with small children.
