Geocache Description:

We don't know if gsmX2 came up with the OOTA (Out of the Ashes) concept, but he certainly has been at the forefront of promoting the idea of replacing fire-destroyed caches with brand new ones, rather than merely replacing the containers on the old ones. In most cases, this makes a lot of sense, as it gives us all new caches to Find, and few of the destroyed caches are classic in any real way, nor old or difficult enough to be useful in Fizzy or Jasmer challenges.

Why am I bringing this up here? Well, an older cache of ours that survived the Thomas Fire did NOT survive the poison oak that sprang up in incredible profusion after the winter rains of 2019. I spent 15 minutes along a 100-foot stretch of trail, hoping to figure out where it went, but all that was seen was lots of P.O, and some boulders sticking out here and there. Charlie Brown had a kite-eating tree; we have cache-eating poison oak surprise

So, I found a good spot for a new cache, but I can't call it an OOTA, as it isn't. What it is, is Out of (the) Poison Oak. Hence, OOPO, because OOTPO looks silly, and sounds sillier. There is a nice view of the avocado trees across the canyon. The cache is a mini-decon container, hanging low. No pencil is in it, so please bring your own to sign the log inside. There is room for small geocoins and such - I dropped one in when I hid this - but please don't leave any SWAG.

Lots of new caches farther up the trail: happy hiking!
