Geocache Description:

I just love the old, mature, "majestic" trees. Been looking for a respectable Old Man in New Kent and found one on the Wahrani trails. This tree is 218 years old!

Time for some new caches on these trails!  The last caches were placed in 2009, yet there is space for more!!  Please note that the trail markers can be confusing, so please utilize a printed map, as well as the Wahrani Trail Web App.  Printed maps are usually available at the trailhead, but can also be printed at  http://www.co.newkent.state.va.us/DocumentCenter/View/1987.  The Web App can be found at https://newkentgis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=684b584f67d844bbb96865f443ea009d    Parking is available at the trail head and listed in the waypoints. Park is open dawn to dusk.

“Wahrani Nature Trail consists of over 138 acres of bicycle and hiking trails.  New Kent Parks and Recreation Department took over the trails from the Chesapeake Corporation in 2001.  Historically, the trail has been known as the Chesapeake Nature Trail or the Warreneye Nature Trail, in honor of the 18th century Warreneye Church (built in 1703) that once stood there.  Some of the bricks of the church site can still be seen in the vicinity of the cemetery………In 2003, New Kent renamed the Wahrani Nature Park to reflect the word’s Native American origins.”  (Content obtained from the New Kent County trail map and brochure)
