La piccola chiesa di San Francesco all'Alberino si trova nel quartiere di Ravacciano, a Siena. Vi si accede tramite una lunga scalinata, che porta al piccolo sagrato. Esternamente si notano in facciata i rifacimenti ottocenteschi: essa infatti è caratterizzata da un paramento in laterizio, mentre lesene, portale e timpano sono in travertino. Internamente la chiesa è costituita da un ingresso rettangolare, che prosegue in un'aula anch'essa rettangolare ma più larga, scandita dalla presenza di pilastri che sorreggono gli arconi a sesto ribassato e le volte a vela. L'interno è intonacato, ed illuminato da delle finestre poste sul fianco sinistro. Il pavimento è in mattonelle di cotto, mentre al di sopra dell'ingresso si trova un piccolo coro.
La prima chiesa parrocchiale dedicata ai Ss. Filippo e Giacomo, era presso un eremo dentro un boschetto del colle di Ravacciano. Nel 1212 in questo eremo si stabilirono i francescani fino al 1237, quando iniziarono a costruire la basilica di San Francesco. Stabilitisi nella nuova sede, i francescani continuarono ad officiare anche nella chiesetta dell'eremo di Ravacciano. Nel 1216 si hanno anche notizie di una visita di San Francesco, che fu caratterizzata dalla permanenza del santo nel convento detto dell'Alberino in cui, come detto, già nel 1212 avevano preso dimora i suoi frati. Come ricorda una lapide sulla facciata della chiesa "qui, per anni 600, si mantenne vegeto il leccio che nel 1212 vi aveva piantato S. Francesco". Da questo episodio derivano il nome della chiesa e della parrocchia.

The small church of San Francesco all'Alberino is located in the Ravacciano district, in Siena. Access is via a long staircase, which leads to the small churchyard. Externally you can see on the façade the nineteenth-century restorations: in fact it is characterized by a facing in brick, while the pilasters, portal and tympanum are in travertine. Internally, the church consists of a rectangular entrance, which continues into a room that is also rectangular but wider, marked by the presence of pillars that support the lowered arched vaults and the ribbed vaults. The interior is plastered and lit by windows on the left side. The floor is in terracotta tiles, while above the entrance there is a small choir.
The first parish church dedicated to the Saints Filippo and Giacomo, was near a hermitage inside a grove of the hill of Ravacciano. In 1212 the Franciscans settled in this hermitage until 1237, when they began to build the Basilica of San Francesco. Having settled in the new headquarters, the Franciscans continued to officiate also in the small church of the hermitage of Ravacciano. In 1216 there is also news of a visit of St. Francis, which was characterized by the permanence of the saint in the convent called “dell’ Alberino” where, as mentioned, already in 1212 his friars had taken up residence. As recalled by a plaque on the facade of the church "here, for 600 years, the holm oak, planted in 1212 by St. Francis, lived". The name of the church and the parish derive from this episode.
