PLEASE RETURN TO ITS WELL PROTECTED PLACE. This hide is at the remnants of Hocking Canal Lock 17, named Wright Lock, located at a park on Haydenville Road by the SR 595 exit from US 33 east of Logan, Hocking County, Ohio. A few feet west of the hide there is a well preserved stone aqueduct. Take time to see both stone structures.
The Hocking Canal started in Carroll, Ohio; passed through Lancaster and Logan; reaching this place in 1840. The change in elevation between Lancaster and Athens required 26 locks, each lowering the level of the water by about 4 feet. The locks were spaced about 2 to 4 miles apart. If you wish to see manual locks in operation, go to the Muskingum River State Park, which has restored locks in operation in Summer time.
