Welcome to the Official Phenomena Geocaches of Clay County!
The geocaches along the Phenomena Trail were designed to do what geocaching does best…give people a reason to get out of their homes, go explore the area and improve their health! This trail will have some twists and turns…some caches will be easier to find while others will be more challenging.
The placement of these geocaches is a collaboration between the Clay County Health Partnership, the Army Corps of Engineers, the Clay County Board of Commissioners, and local geocachers…improving the lives of others through a geocaching collaboration.
This first cache is designed for the true geocaching newby…it will cause you to look a bit harder at the world around you…geocaches are designed to be hidden in “plain sight.” While you may feel a bit odd looking for this one…like someone is watching you…never fear, this one has been placed with the permission of the Army Corps of Engineers.
Geocaching 101:
Geocaching is an outdoor adventure game similar to a treasure hunt played with a GPS device. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, take a trinket from the cache, leave something of greater or equal value in return for the next person and then share your experiences online. There are over three million active geocaches around the world. Some will bring you to new and interesting places while others are designed to teach geological lessons about the world we live in. Bring a friend along but watch out…it’s addictive!
Disclaimer to New Geocachers:
Please take care to understand the basic rules of geocaching in order to help keep the game enjoyable for all who participate. Please do not move or vandalize the container. Replace the cache like or better than you found it (exactly where you found it). The real treasure is just finding the container and sharing your thoughts with everyone who finds it.
