Smokey Bear 75th Anniversary GeoTour

About This Specific Location
Traveling down Washington Tunpike, you will notice a "woods" road intersecting on the north side of Washington Turnpike. 30 feet northeast of this intersection you will notice some tree stumps. This corridor serves as a strategic fuelbreak. The south side of the Turnpike was thinned to improve forest health, reduce forest fuels and decrease the probability of crown fire "jumping" the road in the event of a wildfire. Controlled burns are conducted on either side of the Turnpike to reduce forest fuels and further reinforce the Turnpike to help stop the progression of a wildfire.
This is 1 of 12 hidden caches in NJ and 1 of 75 hidden on the entire Smokey Bear Geotour which is located in the following 7 states, VA, MD, OH, DE. NJ, PA and WV. The launch date for this tour is July 7th.
