Smokey Bear 75th Anniversary GeoTour
Since 1944, Smokey Bear has taught millions of Americans about their role in preventing wildfires. 75 years later, Smokey is celebrating a milestone birthday. Honor him and this timeless message of wildfire prevention by finding all 75 caches in this GeoTour.
About This Specific Location
Located on the perimeter of Bass River State Forest, this cache can be accessed from Baptist Road by crossing the levee of an abandoned cranberry bog. After crossing the bog, travel 225' north (Lauries Road) to a sandy opening. This area marks the entry into a 10,000 acres wildfire that started on March 30, 2019. THe wildfire had flame heights reaching 200' in height and the smoke was visible to residents as far away as Connecticut.
