At the posted coordinates, you should look for the gravesite of Richard Leigh Cox, a Navy Corpsman (Petty Officer 3rd Class) who lost his life in Vietnam on May 27, 1969 while attached to the 1st BN, 26th Marine Regiment. He was 21 years old.
The Marine Corps does not have its own medical occupational specialty as the other military services do. Navy Sailors support the Marine Corps for all medical support, both in combat and non-combat locations. Because of this, Marines hold Corpsmen in special regard. Many times has it been said that no one messes around with a Corpsman when a Marine is present.
