The suspension bridge in Bondo
La mattina del 23 agosto 2017, 3,1 milioni di metri cubi di roccia franarono dal Pizzo Cengalo nella sottostante Val Bondasca. Fu la frana più grande in Svizzera dal 1881. Dopo la frana, un fiume di detriti investì anche Bondo danneggiando molte case e travolgendo il vecchio ponte che attraversava il torrente che divide in due il villaggio. Il 26 aprile 2018 viene aperto un ponte sospeso pedonabile e ciclabile riunendo così, dopo molti mesi di disagi, le due parti del paese, diventando così un simbolo della ricostruzione dopo la frana.
La nostra cache vi porta all'estremità ovest del ponte ma non perdete l'emozionante opportunità di attraversare il ponte sospeso e firmare il log book contenuto nella bella scatola in acciaio fissata ad una roccia all'estremità est del ponte.
On the morning of August 23, 2017, 3.1 million cubic meters of rock collapsed from Pizzo Cengalo into the underlying Val Bondasca. It was the largest landslide in Switzerland since 1881. After the landslide, a river of debris also hit Bondo damaging many houses and overwhelming the old bridge that crossed the stream that divides the village in two. On 26 April 2018, a pedestrian and bicycle suspension bridge was opened, bringing together the two parts of the village after many months of hardship, making it a symbol of reconstruction after the landslide.
