The Denton Hat Co Ltd was founded in 1921 by Harry Greenhough, who was the great grandson of James Marlor the founder of James Marlor & Sons/Marlors Ltd. He started his business in a shed at the rear of a cottage in Town Lane. The business grew and it moved to the Vinery Hat Works on Town Lane near Melbourne Street.
The Denton Hat Company created its popular 'Attaboy' range of hats, which were well known throughout the hatting industry. This company was also the last firm of hat manufacturers to be established in Denton. The business closed in1976 but it was not until 22 October 2001 that it was finally wound up. The last hat factory in Denton closed in 1980
In 2003, the prominent Wilson's Hat Factory on Wilton Street, together with the adjacent mill-workers' houses, other factories, Wilton Street Chapel and Mainstream Studios was demolished to make way for a new retail shopping park 'Crown Point North', part of a major town centre regeneration scheme.
