Geocache Description:

The 12th in the Ghost series. Located about 1.25 miles past the old school house, at an elevation of 7509 feet.

You will pass thru the old town of Sunshine enroute to the cache. It is far from a "ghost" town, there are many residences in the area, but you can still see some of the old homes and mines.

Sunshine was named for the first baby born here - Sunshine Turner, it had a population of 1,500 men, women, and children in its heyday. Sunshine was one of the very few mining camps that closed its saloons on the Sabbath. The town boasted of three good hotels - the Forest House, Grand View, and Howard House, a school house (which is still there)and a newspaper. The newspaper, The Sunshine Courier, was published from 1875 to l878, when it was taken to Boulder. The Sunshine Cemetary can be seen alongside the road just up the road heading towards Gold Hill.
