Fell Foot is a National Trust country park within the Lake District World Heritage Site. It lies at the southern tip of Windermere with wonderful views of the Lake District Fells. It’s a great place for a family day out with lots of space to picnic and play games, trees to climb and easy access to the lake for paddling, swimming and boating. Fell Foot is open all year round, with the shop and café usually open from 10 am to 5 pm.
The land at Fell Foot has had many uses throughout the centuries. In the 14th century it was farmed by Augustinian monks but the landscape we see now was designed as the grounds of a grand villa, long since demolished, in the 19th century. The land was donated to the National Trust in 1948. The meadow, wood pasture and reed-beds here are all important environments for wildlife. Redwings, fieldfares, water rails and sedge warblers all call these places home, and keeping these areas monitored is essential to ensure their continued survival. Please avoid any fenced off areas.
Parking is free for National Trust members. An all-terrain wheelchair, called a ‘mountain trike’, is free to hire but most caches in this series will need an assistant to help a wheelchair user to retrieve them. Please avoid searching for these caches between 9 and 10 am on Saturday mornings, when the Fell Foot Parkrun takes place.
There are 8 caches in the series plus a bonus cache, for which you will need to collect letters from some of the caches. Don’t forget to check each one! You will need to bring your own pen to sign all these caches.
