The largest crater lake in Europe 20

 The largest crater lake in Europe around the round we are in Nykälänniemi, at cache 20. Nykälänniemi is currently an important tourist destination in the region.

 There is a spa with a Kraatterijärvi exhibition on the ground floor, as well as golf courses and a beach. In summer the beach offers access to an inland water cruise to lake Lappajärvi. Nykälänniemi is surrounded by a nature trail where you can see the entire peninsula and its surroundings.

 The Taavintupa is a museum, and in the yard there is a crown grainbarn, moved from the valley of Tarvola, 1834. Recalls the great disappearances and famine of 1862-1867 which, however, did not affect the inhabitants as badly as the other keepers of Lake Ostrobothnia. This was deterrently influenced by the large lake Lappajärvi, which sheltered its grain on its shores. In 1867, which was the most severe of all previous years, emergency work was organized in the municipality, giving poor people a job against the grain. At that time, "runes sheds" were dug, hills were lowered, and roads were made. Crime also increased. At the time of the convention in Lappajärvi in 1868, there were 16 prisoners at a time. These were so starved of food that many were without cuffs.

 Euroopan suurin kraatterijärvi ympäri kierroksella olemme Nykälänniemessä, kätköllä 20. Nykälänniemi on nykyisin merkittävä alueen matkailukohde.

 Täällä toimii kylpylä, jonka alakerrassa on kaikille avoin Kraatterijärvi-näyttely, lisäksi alueelta löytyy golfkentät ja uimaranta. Kesäisin rannasta pääsee sisävesiristeilylle Lappajärvelle. Nykälänniemen kiertää luontopolku, josta käsin näkee koko niemen vesistön ympäristöineen.

Taavintupa on museoitu, ja pihassa on mm Tarvolan valeenista siirretty kruununviljamakasiini vuodelta 1834. Muistuttaa suurista kato-ja nälkävuosista 1862-1867, joka ei kuitenkaan vaikuttanut asukkaisiin niin pahoin, kuin muissa Järvipohjanmaan pitäjissä. Tähän vaikutti ehkäisevästi suuri Lappajärvi, joka rannoillaan turvasi viljan hallalta. 1867, joka oli kovin kaikista edellisistä vuosista, kuntaan järjestettiin hätäaputöitä, jolloin köyhä kansa sai työtä vastaan viljaa. Tuolloin kaivettiin "ruunuojia", madallettiin mäkiä ja tehtiin teitä. Myös rikollisuus kasvoi. Kun käräjiä pidettiin Lappajärvellä 1868, oli vankeja yhtä aikaa 16. Nämä olivat heikon ruoan vuoksi niin nääntyneet, että monta oli ilman rautoja.
