Geocache Description:

WARNING: Some people last fall reported a possible wasp's nest in the immediate vicinity of the cache. I do not know if it survived the winter. Please use your own judgement and caution when searching for this cache!

We must have driven by this spot hundreds of times over the years, and I had no idea that this old mill was here, until I stumbled upon it one evening while waiting for my son to finish his piano lesson downtown.

The cache is located in Heritage Park, which is the site of the remains of the Allan Mill. The mill site was originally owned by the Canada Company and was purchased by the Allan family the 1830s, where they built a mill, and operated it until 1876. The Mill burnt down in 1966, but the City built a cairn amoung the ruins about 25 years ago to celebrate its 150th anniversary, using the original stones from the mill .

The cache in a small Altoids mint tin (about 3/4" by 3" by 4"), and it is painted to match its surroundings. Bring small trading items! At the time of placing, the cache contained:

- a log book and pencil
- Tim Horton's gift certificates
- a hand-tied salmon fly
- a set of 4 millenium quarters
- a City of Guelph pin
- a snowman pin
- a Canada pin
- a Bambi/deer scarf clip

Parking is where you find it, on a side street perhaps. We parked at the strip mall at N43.32.558, W80.14.610.
