Geocache Description:

Tour of historic Fort Bellefontaine.

This virtual cache will take you on a tour of Fort Bellefontaine Park.

Nice tour for families or kids. No bushwacking required.

Included in the tour are the Officer’s Quarters of the fort, national historical signs, a 6 lb. period cannon and the the last campsite of the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1806, as well as the site of the First Fort Cantonment, 1805-1810,

The tour includes the Grand Staircase and Lily Pond built by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in 1936 as a scenic terrace overlooking the Missouri River.

The park is located at the north end of Bellefontaine Road.

Check in at the security checkpoint at the entrance to the park. There is no entry fee.
