Mr. Phelps passed away in 1916 however his wife Bridgey Phelps continued to live in the house until it was sold in 1959. Some of their descendents are still living the area. By 1988 the house was sitting empty and slowly deteriortating.. It was purchased by the Carthage Historic Preservation, Inc. and through extensive restoration and repair, it has been returned to its original spendor. The Mansion is now used for meetings, reunions, weddings, etc., so if there if an event in progressive, please be respectful.
