Geocache Description:

About the Cache

We are a family of geocachers who are excited to be hiding our first cache! This cache is located on the eastern edge of our family’s property. This is a kid-friendly cache with plenty of room for travel bugs to camp at on their journeys. Park anywhere between the highway and the tree-line.

If you take swag, please leave something behind—even if it’s no more than a rock or a penny. Several of our relatives live nearby, so if anyone inquires about what you’re doing, let them know that you’re searching for Angie and Lilith’s hidden treasure.

Just so you know, if you pass the tree-line and come across the rocky gravel of old Hwy. 90, you've gone too far and should turn around.

Some Local History

Once upon a time, Westville boasted that it was the Moonshine Capital of the World. Moonshine is any type of alcohol that's produced illegally, and it is known for it's strength since it's almost pure alcohol. In days gone by, the town held a Moonshine Festival and white lightning ran through the wetlands of Westville. While alcohol is now legal to sell in Holmes County, unincorporated areas of the county are still "dry" on Sundays, meaning that unless a business is within city limits, it cannot sell liquor.

In the 1970’s, June and Herman Davis moved from South Florida and purchased a piece of swamp in Westville, making the high grounds of the property a home for themselves and their children’s families. June founded the Westville Moonshine Cloggers, a dance group that performed at local festivals and in local parades. Her husband Herman welded the Moonshine Man, who served as the cloggers’ mascot. If you break out your binoculars, you can spot The Moonshine Man from the Davis Lane sign. (Please do not approach him, as the cache is NOT near him. He should only be viewed from afar.)
