Geocache Description:

historical marker

this is how this town came to be. mail me with the year it was built, by whom, and what road this marker is erected on. the answer is not "swinging bridge road"; but if you followed "swinging bridge road" in the town's early years, it would take you across the cumberland river via a swinging bridge. that bridge is gone and was been replaced with first one steel girder and now two bridges. this site... http://www.hadleysociety.org/photo_gallery/ancestors_gallery/hadley_jlivingston.html ... has an even older history of the immediate area. update: after reading buell's history of andrew jackson, i have learned that andrew and rachel's first home together (poplar grove) was very near this spot...before the hadley's, before the information on this sign... ~~don't post these answers on the page to log as a find.
