Geocache Description:

The mine is located outside of Tarcal town at the foot of the Nagy Kopasz Hill. The vertical rock walls surrounding the lake are of the volcanic origin. The mine pit is a very deep outdoor quarry. Generally, gravel or sand was mined. Groundwater levels have been lowered during mining. When the extraction was finished, the water returned to its original level and flooded the pit. However, this mine was not filled with groundwater, as the bedrock is made of volcanic andesite, so it does not allow the groundwater to rise. Rainwater plays a significant role in recharging the lake.

Its dangerous to stand under the rock wall as a lot of rocks fall. And it is not recommended to climb eighter.

Its dangerous to bathe in the lake because:
Mining machinery often remained in the mine pit with wire ropes. You can crush yourself to get stuck. There is another interesting feature of these pits. In summer, only the upper layer of water heats up, and the deeper layers remain very cold. Water sudden changes in temperature can cause muscle spasms. Every year, there are some deadly victims of bathing in mining pits.
