PLEASE PARK ALONG THE ROADSIDE IN OTTERTON VILLAGE [DO NOT PARK IN THE MILL CAR PARK] - PLEASE CAR-SHARE IF POSSIBLE
Groundspeak have increased their bi-annual CITO event period to 1st September to 30th November 2019 inclusive, so plenty of opportunity for geocachers to gather together to make a difference to our world.
CITO simply stands for Cache-in-and-Trash-Out, or in English a chance to volunteer to pick up rubbish that gets left to spoil our countryside as well as other opportunities to "do our bit", and everyone especially families, children and dogs are very welcome. This event will be different than those held before as we will be pulling up Himalayan balsam, an invasive weed growing along the river bank.
WE WILL BE MEETING AT OTTERTON MILL, Otterton, EX9 7HB, at the posted coordinates PROMPTLY, and then take a short walk as we will be working along on the river bank downstream from Otterton Mill.
Volunteers should bring GARDENING GLOVES if they have them although Kate Ponting, Clinton Estates' Countryside Learning Officer, does have some spares. LONG SLEEVES/TROUSERS offer protection against nettles. BOOTS OR WELLIES are advised but most important is to be comfortable. Entering water will not be necessary but not restricted either as cachers are intrepid in the pursuit of their prize! Please bring DRINKS to quench your thirst whilst working - oops, that should be whilst enjoying yourselves!
All Clinton Estates staff carry first aid kits and charged mobile phones, although parts of this area is known to be a signal quiet spot. The nearest emergency access point would be west of Otterton Bridge.
As usual I will be bringing a supply of naughty chocolate bars or similar to encourage attendees!
