Geocache Description:

Start here for a 6 mile walk exploring The Dolgellau Quaker trail. In 1657, following a visit by George Fox, many of Dolgellau's inhabitants turned to Quakerism. As the Quakers refused to swear the oath of loyalty to the king they were fiercely persecuted, and the threat of imprisonment was a constant weight on their shoulders. In 1686, owing to the continuous persecution, many of the Dolgellau Quakers emigrated to Pennsylvania under the leadership of a local farmer. There, they would be left in peace to follow their religion together on their own land - but that's a different story... There was s ducking stool here at the bridge dating from 1638, and the County Jail was just through town in Y Merionydd. Many Quakers would have suffered at both places for their beliefs.

Please do not replace any logs that you think are damp. We have purchased and used waterproof paper in all of these, so even if they are damp they are still usable. If you are concerned about the condition please flag as needing maintenance and we will check and fix if needed.
