A religious building has stood on this site since the 8th Century. The present Church is Victorian but incorporates pieces from the 12th Century Norman Church that once stoon on the site. Theres no Bell tower but a Bell Turret houses the the church bells. Inside there are a pair of Hogback Tombstones discovered when renovations to the foundations were being carried out. A Chinese Bell - capurted during The Battle of The Bogue and later donated to the Church and an octagonal font which dates from the 19th Century.
The real gem though is to be found outside the Church in the Churchyard, a Viking stone cross dating from the early part of the 10th Century. It stands some 14.5 ft high (4.42 metres) and is elaborately carved. An ancient cork oak tree is also sited within the Churchyard and is said to be the oldest cork oak in Britain.
There is parking adjacent to the church. The clues can all be answered from the outside of the building. Please note most of the information can be found on plaques located to the rear of the church on the outside walls of the building and by the front gate.
