XIX a. pabaigoje rabinų Isako Riulfo (Isaac Rülf), Šaulio-Zvi Blocho (Shaul-Zvi Bloch) ir daktaro Juliaus Pindikovskio (Julius Pindikovsky) iniciatyva, gautas leidimas ir 1871 m. priešais lenkų žydų sinagogą adresu Hintere Wallstraße Nr. 9a, dabartinėje Galinio pylimo gatvėje, pastatyta žydų ligoninė-prieglauda. Pinigus statyboms aukojo žydai iš Vokietijos ir Rusijos. Ligoninė teikė medicinines paslaugas labiausiai nepasiturintiems Memelio žydams. 1896 m. pastatytas naujas erdvus ligoninės pastatas šalia Akmenų vartų, ant buvusio gynybinio bastiono (dabartinėje Pylimo g.). 
Dviejų aukštų pastate buvo 32 lovos, ligoninę supo sodas. Žemės sklypą naujo ligoninės pastato statyboms už savo pinigus nupirko Memelio bankininkas Leopoldas Aleksanderis (Leopold Alexander), o pastato statyboms pinigų paaukojo baronienė Klara von Hirsch iš Paryžiaus (40 000 markių) ir Jakovas Plautas (Ya'akov Plaut) iš Nicos (20 000 markių). Ilgamečiu šios ligoninės vadovu buvo Leo Rostovskis (Leo Rostowsky).
Šiuo metu pastate įsikūręs Klaipėdos psichikos sveikatos centras.

There were 32 beds in the two-storey building, the garden was surrounded by a hospital. The plot of land for the construction of a new hospital building was bought by Leopold Alexander, Memel's banker, and Baroness Clara von Hirsch from Paris (40,000 marks) and Ya'akov Plaut from Nice ($ 20,000) donated money for building the building. ).
