LOVELOCK - little Venice
Agia Pelagia is a small coastal town near Heraklion. Formaly a fishing village, but over the years it has been developed into a very busy touristic place. For many years there has been a big problem with heavy rainfalls in Agia Pelagia. The main road was built on a riverbed and this often caused a huge flash flood. Now they designed a system to run the river subterraneous through the village. Just a few meters from the beach, the water comes back to the surface. 3 bridges are leading across the small part of the river and makes it look like little Venice.
