Geocache Description:

16 August 2019, 11:30 - 12:00

Within the village of Imber, on the Salisbury plain there are two caches. This is normally a restricted area, however on certain days each year, the land is open to the public. This is one of those special dates. We thought this might therefore be a great opportunity to meet intrepid geocachers who will do anything to get a cache.

Summer opening hours for Imber are very limited this year because the military require more training time than normal. Public access is planned for August Thursday 15th to Monday 19th inclusive.

If you intend to come to this event we recommend you do a little bit of research before hand and find these reources helpful:

  • GCKCJV
  • http://www.imberchurch.org.uk/ImbersafetyLeaflet.pdf
  • http://www.imberchurch.org.uk/FAQ.html

Key is that even though this date has been published for this site to be open to the public, it is still subject to the operational needs of the militray, and means dates may change at the last minute.

You can check by phoning a Defence Estates answering machine (01980 674763), updated weekly, which gives dates and times when access is permitted to the military danger areas on Salisbury Plain; listen for "Imber Ranges" NOT "Larkhill Artillery Range". The routes, when open, run from GORE CROSS (SU 0092 5096) through IMBER VILLAGE to WARMINSTER (ST 8802 4514) and from HEYETSBURY (ST 9288 4277) through IMBER VILLAGE to GRID (ST 9385 4843) to BRATTON (ST 9170 5250). It should be noted that there is no access permitted, off the carriageway in Imber Village, except as described below.

If everything goes to plan, we hope to see you there.....

We will also phone the number a week before to double check the dates are still a go, and will post a note here if our plans do not meet first contact with the enemy.
