This small lock and lock is located on the 3,044 m summit of Courcelette Peak. Expect an easy/moderate scramble via the NW ridge with a one-way distance of 7.5 km and an elevation gain of 750 m from Fording River Pass.
Courcelette Peak:
Courcelette Peak is the tallest peak in the seven summits surrounding the Henretta Cirque. This peak is a real treat offering a fun route and fantastic views to the summit. The NW ridge is likely the best and easiest route, offering a generally enjoyable easy/moderate scramble. You will notice a good variety of survey equipment on the summit as this peak has been used as an official survey point since at least 1985 (via helicopter access). But the history doesn't stop there - the peak was first ascended by AO Wheeler in 1915 as part of the Boundary Commission exploration.
Keep in mind that this peak is deep in the backcountry and will require at least 2 days to ascend and descend car-to-car. Don't underestimate the challenge of this trip and come prepared with a good weather forecast and knowledge of the route. Should you wish, the traverse north to Mount Aldridge offers some interesting moderate/difficult scrambling along an exposed ridge.
Courcelette Peak is named for a town in France which saw heavy fighting during WW I. Enjoy!
