These historic sites predate the Civil War. Robert Adam's water-powered grits mill operated in the ravine north of Mt. Pleasant and was sold to William Gainer around 1840. It was torched during a union raid on July 21,1864. Mt Pleaseant cemetery was donated as an african-american burial ground .
