The amphitheater built in the beginning if the 2-nd century A.D.It was compared with the most famous amphitheaters of antiquity,the elliptical shape with the biggest axis is more than 120 m. The capacity is estimated approximately 15 000 to 18 000 spectatores. In the amphitheatr, slave owners amused themselves watching gladiator's fight, beast fight and different artistic shows.
The construction represents the economicpower of Dyrrah as one of the most important cities of the Adriaic region.
The amphitheater was discovered in 1966 by arch. Vangjel Toci.
