Geocache Description:



A Camélia (Kerria Japónica), popularmente conhecida por “Rosa do Japão”, planta oriunda do Japão e China, foi introduzida pelos ingleses no século XIX na região. Da família das rosáceas, as camélias florescem atualmente um pouco por todo o lado, porém no passado só eram encontradas em pequenos jardins no Vale das Furnas e em Ponta Delgada.

A sua ramagem é arqueada, ramificada e abundante criando um arbusto denso, mais largo do que alto, com aproximadamente 2,5 m de largura por 1,2 m de altura. Suas folhas são verdes, ovais, alternas, simples e com margens serrilhadas.

Sem periodicidade agendada, é nas Furnas que se realizam os Encontros Internacionais de Camélias Antigas, no qual juntam-se variedades de espécies de camélias para formar uma bonita mostra de arranjos florais que merecem sem dúvida, uma visita calma para vislumbrar tamanha beleza.

The Camélia (Kerria Japónica), also known as “Rosa do Japão” is a plant that came from Japan and China and  it was introduced in Azores by the British in the XIX century. From the rosettes family, it`s a shurbby plant  it as approximately 2,5 m widht  and 1,2 m tall. It`s oval green leafs have a cropped shape, a bit diferente from the regular leaf flowers.

Nowadays, the Camélias flowers bloom a bit everywhere, but is wasn`t allways like that, in the past they where only found in small gardens in the Valley of Furnas and in the city of Ponta Delgada.

It is also in Furnas that occurs, the International Metting of Antigue Camélias, where we can admire in a beautiful exposition, the stunnig variety of Camélia flowers.
