Portrush is a picturesque seaside town on Northern Ireland's north coast. It's name comes from the Irish "Port Rois" meaning promontory port. This cache will bring you to the furthest point of the harbour with views across the harbour itself, Portstewart, Donegal and the Atlantic beyond. On a bright day the sun will glisten off the water as sea birds dive for fish just in front of you. On a stormy day waves will crash against the harbour wall showering you with sea spray! Be careful going for the cache especially on a windy day as the GZ is located along a narrow path to the harbour's edge with deep water nearby. It is for you to judge if the weather conditions and your own abilities allow an approach. Please be careful to keep a close eye on young children.
Portrush is an excellent place to visit. As this cache is placed the 148th Open Golf Championship is taking place on the world famous local links course. It is home to two award winning beaches and as you look back and to the right you will see the volcanic rock of Ramore head stretching into the water and emphasising the fact that the town is built on a penninsula with water on three sides. It is the core location for nightlife on the North Coast and just behind you, within two hundred yards, are six restaurants and the reknown Harbour Bar.
I love to stand at this place and watch the world go by be it in sun or rain and I think it is one of the most beautiful spots I know. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
