Geocache Description:

The Niagara escarpment is a erosional feature that makes an arc around the Michigan basin. The escarpment starts near Rochester and through ontario and Michigan to green bay Wisconsin and the door peninsula. In ontario the Bruce trail winds along the 725 Km stretch from Niagara falls to tobermory! Here you are stranding at the end of the Bruce trail and the tip of the escarptment!

In ordovican times, the Michigan basin was occupied by inland seas. The lower rocks making up the escarpment were created in deposits washed down by rivers. Following that and for millions of years, a warm tropical sea supported the formation of Coral reefs, created the upper layers of the escarpment. When the sea started to disappear about 300 million years ago, the land surface was gradually exposed to the eroosive forces of water, wind, ice and gravity.

Info taken, then paraphrased from the book, "geology and landforms of grey and Bruce counties"
