Geocache Description:

Pepper was my beautiful girl, adopted from the St. John's SPCA in June of 2010 at the age of “6 or 7” after being given up by her family. I had her in my life for just a little more than 5-1/2 years, but she made just as great an imprint on me in that time as any dog I had for 15 or more. She was a sweet girl - full of love, loyalty, and a lot of fun. And I miss her very much. This puzzle cache is created and placed in her honour close to the same SPCA shelter which had been her home for those two or three weeks, as she waited for me to come to discover her.

The cache, upon placement, contains treats for dogs and for dog lovers. Wherever possible, please make similar trades of SWAG with dog-related items.

To figure the correct coordinates, please answer the following, sourced from an article about the so-called Black Dog Syndrome, various peppers, and a famous actor's not-so-good boy. ...

A – According to Wikipedia, Black Dog Syndrome is “a phenomenon in which black dogs are passed over for adoption in favour of lighter-coloured animals.” Go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_dog_syndrome to fill in the missing digit: “A 201A study published in the journal Anthrozoos displayed photographs of dogs coloured either yellow or black, and with floppy ears or pointy ears. It found that 'participants rated the yellow dog significantly higher than the black dog on the personality dimensions of Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Emotional Stability.'”

B – In the musical Annie, Pepper is one of the bullies among the orphans. The character was featured in the stage production and both the 1982 and 2014 film versions of “Annie”. According to https://annie.fandom.com/wiki/Pepper, Pepper's age is 2xB years old.

C – Pop back to the Wikipedia page on Black Dog Syndrome to find the answer to the following: A website called Black Pearl Dogs provides information about Black Dog Syndrome. The site was created by Tamara Delaney in 200C.

D – The TV series “Police Woman” starred Angie Dickinson as Sergeant Suzanne "Pepper" Anderson, LAPD's top undercover cop. A member of the Criminal Conspiracy Unit, Pepper works the wild side of the street, where she poses as everything from a gangster's moll to a streetwalker to a prison inmate. “Police Woman” aired in the 19D0s. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071034/?ref_=nv_sr_1?ref_=nv_sr_1

E - James Stewart is among my favourite classic actors. He was one of those rare talents who looked like they were not acting at all because he looks so natural. I always enjoy his performances, even when the films are just so-so. I'll recommend a few titles - Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), The Philadelphia Story (1940), The Shop Around the Corner (1940) – remade years later as You've Got Mail, Harvey (1950), any of his Alfred Hitchcock films, but especially Rear Window (1954), The Spirit of St. Louis (1957), Anatomy of a Murder (1959), The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962), and of course, the beloved It's a Wonderful Life (1946), which is now a Christmas classic. Jimmy was a good friend of Johnny Carson and a favourite guest on The Tonight Show for many years. On a few occasions, he would read one of his poems. Here is one he wrote in honour of his dog. Grab a tissue or two – every time I lose a pet, I seem to go back and check out Jimmy's poem – evidence that we all face it, we all feel it, and it can be the simplest things we miss the most when they leave us. Here is Jimmy reading “Beau”: https://youtu.be/mwGnCIdHQH0 Jimmy Stewart's appearance on The Tonight Show was on 07.2E.81

F – The Beatles released their 8th album, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in 1967. G – Pop back to the Wikipedia page for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” was one of the most popular songs on the album. According to its Wikipedia entry, “(John) Lennon's son Julian allegedly inspired the song with a nursery school drawing that he called "Lucy – in the sky with diamonds". Shortly before the album's release, speculation arose that the first letter of each of the title nouns intentionally spelled "LSD". As a result, the song was the subject of a BBC radio ban. Lennon repeatedly denied that he had intended it as a drug song, although he got the inspiration from an LSD trip.” Look up the tracklisting for the album - “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” was song #G on side 1.

H – The Great Waldo Pepper is a Robert Redford film which tells the fictional story of a former WWI pilot who works in air shows after the war, and then works as a movie stunt pilot. The film also features Susan Sarandon and Margot Kidder early in their careers. The Great Waldo Pepper was released in 197H.
