Dena’s Bird Barn
Dena Greenwood was a local naturalist, educator, conservationist, former park ranger, and manager of Jay’s Bird Barn in Sedona. The Sedona Wetlands is a preserve today because of the work of Dena, and Anita MacFarlane. Together they worked for 20 years to encourage the city to turn the sewage treatment plant into a park for birds and people to enjoy. Dena was the most prolific birding leader in the Verde Valley. We miss her.
The Sedona Wetlands Preserve is part of the City of Sedona’s Parks & Recreation system and is one of Northern Arizona Audubon Society’s sanctuaries. There are walking trails, restrooms, viewing platforms, and picnic tables.
Bring your binoculars. Pack a snack. It’s a good place to walk your Corgi.
