We were out searching for caches today to find some missing jewels for the Mystery at the Museum souvenir challenge. We picked a "shortcut" on a road that neither of us had taken before, and noticed that there was a sign for a historical marker. Initially, we passed by this, but quickly turned around to check it out.
It turns out that there is a memorial for a massacre that took place over 1200 miles away! According to the sign at this site, the group that is responsible for the deaths is in control of the interpretation of the massacre as they own the land where it happened. Want to know more? Visit this interesting site and read the sign for yourself.
PS, I'm not sure if the historical marker is meant for this memorial or for the Masonic Lodge which is next to this cemetery. It has a plaque noting that is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also a neat, old building that was built in 1876.
