O que são fósseis?

Os fósseis são restos de seres vivos ou evidências de suas actividades biológicas preservados em diversos materiais. Essa preservação ocorre principalmente em rochas e os exemplos mais citados são ossos e caules fossilizados, conchas, ovos e pegadas. O aparecimento de fósseis é raro. Acontece que, por vezes, os restos orgânicos ficam rapidamente envolvidos num material protetor e impermeável que os preserva do contacto com a atmosfera, da água do mar e dos agentes decompositores. Os compostos orgânicos que constituem o organismo morto são substituídos por outros mais estáveis.

Os fósseis podem ser classificados em duas categorias principais:

(1) Somatofósseis: tipo de fóssil que ocorre quando alguma parte do ser vivo é preservada. São consideradas evidências directas dos seres vivos. Por exemplo, fósseis de dentes, de carapaças, de folhas, de conchas, de troncos, etc. São restos de seres vivos.	(2) Icnofósseis: tipo de fóssil que ocorre apenas com evidências indirectas dos seres vivos, isto é, resultam das suas actividades biológicas. Pegadas, marcas de mordidas, de ovos. São vestígios da passagem dos seres vivos.

 

Amonites

Amonóides ou amonites são um grupo de animais moluscos extintos que estão mais intimamente relacionados com os polvos, lulas e chocos atuais. As primeiras amonites apareceram durante o Devoniano e as últimas espécies morreram no periodo de extinção Cretáceo-Paleogeno.

As amonites são excelentes fósseis de idade, ou seja, através da sua presença é possível estimar a idade da rocha à sua volta. As suas conchas fósseis geralmente tomam a forma de espirais, embora existam outras formas.

A casca da amonite foi dividida em câmaras separadas por paredes conhecidas como septos e em câmaras internas. Estes reforçaram a casca e impediram que ela fosse esmagada pela pressão externa da água. As amonites provavelmente não suportariam profundidades de mais de 100 metros.

Contextualização histórica - A Padeira de Aljubarrota

Decorria o ano de 1385 e a Batalha de Aljubarrota estava a começar. Brites de Almeida, também conhecida como a Padeira de Aljubarrota, era uma mulher corpulenta, ossuda e feia, de nariz adunco, boca muito rasgada e cabelos crespos. Era então destemida e valente, servindo-se dos seis dedos em cada mão.

Em 14 de Agosto desse ano foram derrotados os castelhanos. No entanto, sete deles fugiram do campo da batalha para se albergarem nas redondezas, encontrando abrigo na casa de Brites, que estava vazia porque Brites teria saído para ajudar na batalha que ocorria.

Quando Brites voltou, encontrou-os dentro do seu forno, batendo-lhes com a sua pá até à morte de todos. Reza a lenda que, de seguida, tê-los-à cozido no seu forno, juntamente com o pão com chouriço.

Ammonites

Ammonites or ammonites are a group of extinct mollusc animals that are more closely related to today's octopus, squid and cuttlefish. The first ammonites appeared during the Devonian and the last species died in the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction period.

Ammonites are excellent age fossils, that is, through their presence it is possible to estimate the age of the rock around them. Their fossil shells usually take the form of spirals, although there are other forms.

The ammonite shell was divided into chambers separated by walls known as septa and into inner chambers. These strengthened the husk and prevented it from being crushed by the external pressure of the water. Ammonites would likely not support depths of more than 100 meters.

Historical context - The baker of Aljubarrota

It was the year 1385 and the Battle of Aljubarrota was beginning. Brites de Almeida, also known as the Baker of Aljubarrota, was a stout, bony and ugly woman with a hooked nose, a very torn mouth and curly hair. She was then fearless and brave, using six fingers on each hand.

On August 14 of that year the Castilians were defeated. However, seven of them fled the battlefield to take shelter in the vicinity, finding shelter in Brites' house, which was empty because Brites would have gone out to help in the ongoing battle.

When Brites returned, he found them inside his oven, beating them all to death with his shovel. Legend has it that he then baked them in his oven, along with the chorizo ​​bread.
