Geocache Description:

This cache celebrates this mural of transportation in the Nelson area, particularly the Sternwheeler Nasookin. Local artist Dan Morslander, along with 16 students from local high schools, completed the four large murals as a gift to Nelson, during Nelson’s SnoFest Celebration in 1989.

Launched in 1913, the SS Nasookin was the flagship for the CPR's BC Lake and River Service as they prepared for an influx of tourists into southeastern British Columbia. The expansion was sadly timed: World War One broke out in 1914 and the focus of the country was not on travel for the sake of fun and exploration.

Fortunately for geocachers, we have a little more time to look around.

Bonus: the actual Nasookin boat is preserved as a private home along the highway North of Nelson! Have you seen it?
